Negative feelings arose at this year's event due to a sharp reprimand of the Mexican contestant, Posh, which caused a scandal, leading to her withdrawal, a display of female solidarity, and a dramatic tearful apology from the local organizer who was the cause of it.
During the live broadcast of the awards ceremony, which included nearly 130 contestants, Thai national director Nawat Itsaragrisil criticized the Mexican contestant Posh. In response, Posh left the room, and others joined her in a show of solidarity, including Miss Universe 2024, Denmark's Victoria Kirz Thelvig.
Mexican Fatima Posh Fernandez was crowned Miss Universe 2025.
