At least 30 people have died and around 67 were injured of varying degrees after a construction crane fell and caused a passenger train to derail in northeastern Thailand. According to international media reports accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the tragic incident occurred in Ban Thanon Khot, Si Khiew subdistrict, when the crane collapsed onto a train traveling from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province. As a result, the metal structure stopped the train and caused it to derail, after which the train caught fire with passengers inside. Immediately, a large-scale rescue operation was deployed. Local police, paramedics, and firefighters arrived at the scene to contain the flames, while several rescuers entered the wreckage to pull out the injured. Meanwhile, according to the city government where the accident occurred, reported via Facebook, the crane was supporting an under-construction railway bridge and “collapsed onto the passenger train, causing a derailment and a fire at the scene”.
